Cast Iron Skillet Pizza (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base

01 - 1 lb. pizza dough
02 - 2 tablespoons olive oil

→ Toppings

03 - 1/4 cup pizza sauce
04 - 1 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano
05 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
06 - 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
07 - Kosher salt
08 - Fresh basil leaves for garnish

# Instructions:

01 - Place a 9-inch cast iron skillet inside the oven and heat to 500°F (260°C).
02 - CAREFULLY remove the hot skillet from the oven and spread olive oil in a thin layer across the pan.
03 - On a lightly floured surface, work pizza dough into a 9-inch circle.
04 - Gently place shaped dough inside the hot cast iron skillet.
05 - Spread pizza sauce in an even layer across the crust. Poke holes all over the dough with a fork to prevent bubbling.
06 - Sprinkle dried thyme or oregano and garlic powder evenly over the sauce.
07 - Distribute mozzarella cheese evenly and bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and crust edges are dark golden brown.
08 - Switch oven to broil setting for 1-2 minutes until cheese develops dark golden brown spots.
09 - Sprinkle with kosher salt and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve immediately.

# Notes:

01 - The extremely hot cast iron skillet creates a crispy crust similar to brick oven pizzas.
02 - Allow the pizza to cool for 1-2 minutes before slicing to let the cheese set.
